J. Walker Candlemolds

The painted wood-framed tin candle molds made by J. Walker have long been one of the most desirable examples of candle molds among collectors of Americana. The mold maker is most often identified by a gold stencil on one end. The place of origin is usually identified as well with a “W. Bloomfield” or “Livonia” which are neighboring villages about 30 miles south of Rochester, New York. The painted wood surface is either painted red or green and comes in a 24 or 36-tube size.

The quality of craftsmanship of both the wood and tin elements is exceptional. I often described them as a beautiful piece of furniture. The example shown has been in our collection for many years. These molds date to the mid-nineteenth century.
