This hand carved totem was purchased out of a collection in the Buffalo area.  Skillfully carved, it stands 14 1/2" tall.  The base measures 4" by 3 1/2".  It may represent the stages of a woman's life beginning with the smaller figure on a pedestal at the top being childhood.  A second and third female figure may represent youth and womanhood.  The carving bears similarity to a carved cane discovered in Pennsylvania and is likely from there as well.  Dating to the 1920's, the maker was likely influenced by the native American carvings of that time.  The totem is offered in excellent original surface and condition.
