Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Preserve Jar made and stamped by "J. Burger, Jr., Rochester, N.Y."
This is the mark of John Burger, Jr. who ran the Burger family pottery from 1880 to 1890 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Pottery, p. 74).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and Tulip Created with a Slip Cup. The tulip has five leaves, two of which are striped, and a blossom with 5 petals, three of which are striped. Bright cobalt was used throughout the decoration. Stands 11 1/2" tall.
Very Good Condition. Five chips on the rim with none in the front (1/4" to 1"), a 1/2" chip on the left and right handles, a 1" chip on the underside at the edge, and a very light stain on the back. No hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
