This country checkerboard was purchased from an estate in western New York.  It is guaranteed original in both paint and condition.  The board is made of thick white pine and is constructed using square nails to attach the frame.  It easily dates to the 3rd quarter of the 19th century.  This is a smaller piece measuring 13 3/4" by 13 1/4".  The game 'Nine Men's Morris' is scribed into the reverse.  'FRED E GRAY' is stenciled on the back as well indicating the maker, owner or both.  This is a classic country game board worthy of the most discerning collectors of Americana.
