Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "C. W. Braun, Buffalo, N.Y."
This is the mark of Charles W. Braun who ran the old Heiser pottery in Buffalo from 1857-1896 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware , p. 75).
Dating around 1860, this beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Folk Art Floral Executed with a Slip Cup. The floral has four leaves accented with dashes, and a blossom with striped petals and a middle that resembles a pineapple with a crown of dots. Rich cobalt applied by an expert hand. Stands 14 3/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. As made. No damage of any kind. Two stonepings on the right side- one at the spout and one at the shoulder, and a 5" surface-only horizontal firing line on the back near the bottom (closeup)-- all in the making.
